Now that the real estate market has become hot again, that's become the most common point of discussion everywhere. Boring! God, is the entire self worth of these folks all locked up in the net worth of their real estate holdings?? Seems like that. Actually they have nothing much to speak of real estate holdings other than their primary dwelling but still that's what they talk about all the time.
Recently it so happened that some acquaintances were at their boring best talking about homes, how many baths, how many half baths, valuations, recent sales in their neighborhood etc. Blah! Blah!
Somebody asked me. 'What kind of a house you have?'
'I live in a rented apartment. I prefer to rent and not own,' I said.
'What kind?'.
'One bedroom apartment with one and a half bath,' I said stressing 'one and a half bath.'
'Really??? That's surprising,' said another person.
'What surprising???' I queried.
'An one bedroom apartment with one and a half bath??? Never heard of one before.'
'Ignorance is thy enemy!' I thought.
'Yes. Definitely. My apartment has one and a half bath!' I reinforced.
Curiosity perked up.
'I wonder how they have managed fit in a half bath in your place. Where is it??' asked the inquisitive one. He must have been thinking about remodeling his own house by adding another half bath.
'A half bath is in the clubhouse!'
'What????!!!!'
'Yes. My apartment's half bath is in apartment's clubhouse!' I said again. Some laughed out loud. Some looked annoyed. The architecturally inquisitive one felt taken for a ride and screamed in pseudo-hostile way, 'YooooooooooooooooU....YoooooooooUUUUUUUU!!!!'
'Good bye folks. Gotta go!.' I left. I have work to go and buy some real estate but not the brick and mortar type but REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts).
REITS - smart way to own real estate and beef up your portfolio with real estate component.
